HTC Flyer Has Been Released! Flyer Prices, Specs, Reviews, Videos & Pictures

HTC Flyer Specs

HTC Flyer tablet by HTC

  • 1.5GHz single-core processor
The Flyer has a single-core processor for now. Reps have stated that the dual-core processors didn’t make sense with Android 2.4; there’s not much multi-threading to take advantage of the multiple cores.
  • 1GB of RAM, 32GB flash storage
  • aluminum unibody construction
  • 1024 x 600 resolution for the display
  • HTC Sense for tablets
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • 5 MP back camera; 1.3 MP front camera

HTC Flyer Price

The announcement of the Flyer is not the same as the launch of the Flyer; the Flyer has not yet been priced, and the operating system is not yet completed.

CrunchGear has reported that the Flyer has been priced at €669 at Amazon.de, the German Amazon website. What the Flyer price in the US will be is hard to tell, however a comparison of the prices of both the Galaxy Tab and the HTC Desire suggests that the price would be ~$800*. This is a very high price, however, so let’s wait and see what the cost of the Flyer will be in the US.

*Price in USD/ Price in Euros = 1.2; 669 * 1.2 = $806

HTC Flyer Reviews

Boy oh boy, HTC is entering the tablet arena with quite a bang. The company has just taken the wraps off its brand new 7-inch Flyer Android tablet, which touts a 1.5GHz single-core CPU, 1GB of RAM plus 32GB of flash storage, an aluminum unibody construction, 1024 x 600 resolution, a tablet-optimized version of Sense, and… what’s this, a pressure-sensitive stylus!
Engadget

Like every other 7-inch Android tablet, HTC’s Flyer is essentially a very big phone. It even looks slightly phonier than the rest. But it might be the nicest oversized phone-tablet yet.
Gizmodo

Overall, I have mixed feelings about the Flyer. Is there room for a Gingerbread tablet at all, in a world of Honeycomb?….As always, price and performance will play a big role in the success of HTC’s first tablet.
PC Mag

Overall, we’re mostly impressed with the HTC Flyer – the new version of HTC Sense with dual-pane windows for things like video, contacts and mail looked like it worked well when it all flashed past our eyes.
TechRadar

HTC Flyer Videos

The videos show the Sense UI layer on top of Android 2.4 Gingerbread. The code apparently is not finalized; the interface will be smoother on launch.

HTC Scribe Tablet to be Released in February?

HTC may unveil the HTC Scribe Flyer, its initial tablet PCs equipped with a 7-inch screen and Android 3.0, at the 2011 Mobile World Congress to take place in Barcelona, Spain, during February 14-17.
Digitimes

Once again, Digitimes is the source for another leak regarding the HTC tablet.

HTC Tablet = HTC Flyer

Update: HTC Scribe is the Flyer’s stylus-related software.

In late December 2010, HTC registered for the Scribe trademark as a “Handheld wireless device, namely, a tablet computer”. Well, can’t get more specific than that!

Other websites have mentioned that it will be running Android 3.0 Honeycomb, however there seem to have been some major delays in the Android release schedule. Our money’s still with Android 3.0, but I wouldn’t be to see Android 2.4 Gingerbread instead.

Finally, the time comes near for the tablet we’ve been waiting for; the first true competition for the iPad.

HTC Tablet Display Will be 720p, Powered by Tegra 2

The Tegra 2 supports full 1080p video playback

According to Digitimes, the HTC tablet will be powered by the Tegra 2 processor by Pegatron corp., a Taiwanese manufacturer, also an ASUS subsidiary.

[The HTC] Android tablet, which is said to be running on one of Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chipsets, and will include a touchscreen with 1280 x 720 resolution, 2GB of RAM and 32GB SSD. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS are also said to be present.
Slashgear.com

The Tegra 2 has impressive benchmarks and is capable of 1080p H.264 video encode and decode – meaning that the HTC tablet could run 1080p. The Tegra 2 website claims the “world’s first mobile 1080p HD video processor…” but whether that capability will be utilized in the tablet is questionable. Continue reading

More HTC Tablet Specs Rumors…Two Tablets Are Better Than One!

The HTC tablet rumor mill is at it again.

Slashgear reports on a DigiTimes story about the HTC tablet.

HTC is ramping up to release an Android tablet – potentially running 3.0 Gingerbread – in Q1 next year.

The most interesting part of Slashgear’s article was the speculation (and logical conclusion) that HTC may be developing two devices: one Chrome OS tablet that runs on the Verizon network, and one that runs Android 3.0 Gingerbread: Continue reading

HTC Tablet – Touch Screen Supplier Identified as N-Trig

HTC TabletMany sources around the web have reported that HTC is partnering with a company named N-Trig to provide the HTC Tablet’s touch screen. The original article appears to be from Haaretz.com; an Israeli newspaper.

The HTC Tablet’s Capacitive Touch Screen

On their website, N-Trig writes about their touch screen technology:

N-trig DuoSense® dual-mode digitizer solution for pen and multi-touch is a grid-based capacitive touch solution, using a highly accurate capacitive sensing system mounted in front of the LCD panel, and offering high performance, ease of use, and quick and accurate response time.

The zero pressure element of the DuoSense capacitive technology provides the end user with more flexibility for pen and multi-touch computing, enabling a smoother, more natural and consistent feel, and providing a true hands-on computing experience.

Will the HTC tablet feature a stylus?

N-Trig writes about the touch screen being well suited for pen input. While the focus of tablet computing has recently been multi-touch, could HTC be trying to one-up the iPad by also having a stylus?

The pieces are coming together for the HTC pad.

While the jury is still out as to whether or not the tablet will feature Chrome OS or Android, some of the specs of the tablet are starting to come together.

HTC Tablet to be Google-branded, Verizon-only, Launched on Black Friday, and Free?

Some big claims about a Google-branded HTC tablet.

The blog DownloadSquad reports claims by a source that HTC will be releasing a Google-branded tablet that will be exclusively on the Verizon network. They also report that this tablet will be running Chrome OS, not Android.

The article continues to say that the tablet will be launching on Black Friday – November 26, 2010, historically the busiest shopping day of the year.

The article claims the tablet will be much cheaper than the iPad, if not free.

I’ll believe these claims when I see the tablet in November.

Taken as a whole, I just don’t believe the article.

Releasing a product on the day with the most marketing interference would be hard. It’s also the day where prices are slashed on most electronics, so if it costs anything, it will be entering the market on the most competitively priced day.

My money is on another date.

Chrome OS is a big shift. Eric Lin has stated that HTC won’t release a tablet until they “…have a compelling feature,” and Chrome OS could be that feature. However, the release date of Black Friday makes no sense.
