Some big claims about a Google-branded HTC tablet.
The blog DownloadSquad reports claims by a source that HTC will be releasing a Google-branded tablet that will be exclusively on the Verizon network. They also report that this tablet will be running Chrome OS, not Android.
The article continues to say that the tablet will be launching on Black Friday – November 26, 2010, historically the busiest shopping day of the year.
The article claims the tablet will be much cheaper than the iPad, if not free.
I’ll believe these claims when I see the tablet in November.
Taken as a whole, I just don’t believe the article.
Releasing a product on the day with the most marketing interference would be hard. It’s also the day where prices are slashed on most electronics, so if it costs anything, it will be entering the market on the most competitively priced day.
My money is on another date.
Chrome OS is a big shift. Eric Lin has stated that HTC won’t release a tablet until they “…have a compelling feature,” and Chrome OS could be that feature. However, the release date of Black Friday makes no sense.
